FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAC @ IAS is pleased to present objects from Lewis Colburn's ongoing project, A Total Collapse.
A Total Collapse is a series of interrelated sculptural vignettes, combining fragmented monument-forms with a vocabulary of contemporary objects referencing artifice, automation, and human fragility. This combination of forms loosely reference a sense of acceleration both of progress and of retrograde political motion, and the idea of de-stabilizing previously monolithic forms and ideas.
Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Lewis Colburn holds a BA in studio art and Russian language from St. Olaf College, and a MFA in sculpture from Syracuse University. Colburn has participated in residency programs at the Center for Land Use Interpretation, the Vermont Studio Center, D’Clinic Studios in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, and SculptureSpace in Utica, New York.
Colburn’s work has been shown internationally and throughout the United States, at venues including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, the Arlington Arts Center in Arlington, VA, and South China Normal University in Guangzhou, China. He has an upcoming project scheduled at the Torrance Art Museum in Los Angeles, CA.
Colburn is also a member of NAPOLEON, an artist-run project space in Philadelphia’s Rollins Building. His works have been featured in Sculpture magazine, as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer. He is currently based in Philadelphia, and teaches sculpture at Drexel University, where he is an assistant professor.
MAC @ IAS is a partnership between Mount Airy Contemporary and Intuitive Art Space.
Operating since 2009 out of a Mt. Airy carriage house, MAC (Mount Airy Contemporary) has focused on providing low key, high quality art experiences in an informal residential setting, and building strong, authentic connections between artists and audiences.
MAC is pleased by the opportunity to present exhibitions at Intuitive Art Space. MAC is an ongoing curatorial project by artist couple Andrea Wohl Keefe and Colin Keefe.
Intuitive Art Space, in partnership with Mount Airy Contemporary, is a community gallery located at the corner of Main and Rector Streets in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia. Quarterly exhibitions, utilizing the large windows of the EY Intuitive office, will be viewable to pedestrians day and night.
