It’s been eighteen months since the COVID-19 pandemic took firm hold in the United States. We’ve had to learn to be at home with ourselves and to reach out over distances in order to stay connected. This show compares paintings by two artists, Carol Saft and Nanci Hersh, who respectively represent their connections with those that they stay home with and those they connect with via Zoom. “Staying Together” reminds us of the meaningfulness of these human relationships.
Carol Saft (https://carolsaft.com/) is a New York-based sculptor. Saft began a new painting series called “At-Home with COVID” during her recovery from the disease during pandemic. These most recent works mine the quirks and wonder of daily intimate gestures in a period of recovery and isolation.
Nanci Hersh (https://www.nancihersh.com/) is a Philadelphia-based mixed-media artist. “Unmasked: Portraits from the Zoom Room” is an ongoing painting series which captures the faces of artists, educators and colleagues Hersh interacts with daily in her work life. The pandemic created an unanticipated environment for people to meet via the internet, magnifying the need and the power of human connectivity.
